SPOT: GARMISCH PARTENKIRCHEN

I don’t know what I would do without the Bayern Ticket. Being able get to the top of the Alps in a few hours is a great advantage of living in Munich.

We’ve been to Garmisch Partenkirchen many times before, but never went anywhere close to the Zugspitze. We’ve been looking forward to visiting the Alpspix (the platforms on the cliff) since we saw it on the internet, so we decided to take the Seilbahn (cable car) to the top of the Alpspitze. The cable car was an hour’s walk away from the train station and we passed through the extremely romantic village scene with cows, sheep, green grass and wooden sheds. We realized that the cable car to Alpspix wasn’t cheap at all, (25 Euros for a round trip) but in the end we both thought it was very much worth it.

Seilbahn takes you to the Aplspitze, which is 1200 meters higher than your starting point. Just like every other mountain top in Bavaria, there is a beer garden on the peak. The mountain view doubles the pleasure of the cold beer and we probably had the best Weißbier of our lives. The Alpspix is a platform with a transparent mesh on the floor. Although it was exciting to walk on, we thought it could have been built better.

While we were there, we saw lots of people paragliding from the peak, along with a man probably around 85 years old. I have to admit I thought he was doing it because he had nothing to lose. I was probably more frightened watching them take off than the man himself.

On the way back we took another cable car to another peak, where had half an hour’s walk before going back to the village.

We arrived home with red cheeks, lots of nice photographs and dead tired. I slept like a baby after our little day trip.

Alpspix’i (daglardan uzanan platformu) uzun zaman once internette gormustum ve hep gitmek istemistim.
